Get the Facts - The
Facts Speak for
Themselves!
With few exceptions, the
lubricants business is
fundamentally
self-monitored. In other
words, the quality of
engine oils,
transmission fluids,
gear oils, and most
other lubricants is not
regulated by government
standards and
authorities. Instead, it
is established and
monitored by lubricant
manufacturers,
marketers, and trade
associations.
The Petroleum Quality
Institute of America (PQIA)
changes this...
The Petroleum Quality
Institute of America (PQIA)
is an independent
resource for information
and insights on the
quality and performance
of lubricants in the
marketplace. The
company's stated mission
is to serve the consumer
of lubricants by
reporting on the quality
and integrity of
lubricants in the
marketplace. It does so
by random sampling and
independent, third-party
testing of lubricants
taken from the field.
Test results are posted
along with the brand
names on the PQIA
website. See link below.
In addition, the
Petroleum Quality
Institute of America
offers a Lubricant
Certification Program to
safeguard the public's
confidence and trust in
the lubricants they
purchase.
What makes PQIA
different?
According to PQIA, it
serves the lubricant
consumer rather than oil
company members or
sponsors, in addition
PQIA...
- Conducts random
lubricant sampling
- Has all samples
analyzed by an
independent
laboratory
- All data from
testing of branded
lubricants is made
public
PQIA's guiding principle
is honesty, integrity,
and transparency.
So what's Next?
Independent Brands.
PQIA purchases random
samples of independent
brand passenger car
engine oils (PCEO) in
the North East market.
The samples will be
tested, and the test
results reported
(including brand names)
on PQIA's website in
March 2010.
Testing of engine oils
and other lubricants
from other regions of
the United States will
follow.
